Three orthopedic surgeons with Island Orthopedics.

Island Health is proud to announce the opening of Island Orthopedics, a new clinic focused on full-spectrum orthopedics, from sports-related injuries to joint replacement.

Located at 2720 Commercial Avenue, the new facility is designed to meet the growing demand for advanced orthopedic services in the community. The clinic will offer comprehensive care for a range of musculoskeletal conditions—from sports injuries and joint pain to injections and surgical interventions—delivered by a team of experienced orthopedic specialists.

“Access to exceptional orthopedic care is important for our active community,” said CEO Elise Cutter. “We’re proud to offer the latest in diagnostics, treatment and surgical interventions right here in Anacortes, so patients can stay close to home and focus on healing.”

The clinic will be led by Orthopedics Medical Director Eric Secrist, MD, and features state-of-the-art technology, on-site imaging services, and a full orthopedic team to treat a wide range of issues. Dr. Secrist is the only orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in joint replacements in the region encompassing Skagit, Island, San Juan, Okanogan and Whatcom counties. He has been performing surgeries at Island Hospital for the last few years as a contracted surgeon. Now fully employed by Island Health, Secrist will continue to provide total hip replacements, partial knee replacements and total knee replacements in Anacortes.

Dr. Secrist will be joined by Jennifer Reem, DO, and Ryan Myers, MD, who both bring extensive experience and expertise in sports medicine and orthopedic trauma from their time in the United States Navy. Drs. Reem and Myers both live in Anacortes and are excited to utilize the expertise they gained in the military to care for our local community. They are joined by a team of physician assistants including Ciera Cline, PA-C, and Alecia Cunniff, PA-C.

The team at Island Orthopedics will also partner closely with Island Sports & Spine, including Robert Billow, MD, and Simon Shapiro, DO, (joining in July) to specialize in nonoperative treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and chronic conditions.

Island Orthopedics will provide personalized treatment plans for both operative and nonoperative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, empowering patients to regain mobility and improve their quality of life without having to travel far from home for care. Dr. Secrist will begin seeing patients on May 2 within Island Surgeons, located on the main Island Health campus. Island Orthopedics, located at 2720 Commercial Avenue, will officially open its doors to the public on May 19 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for June 12 followed by guided tours and meet-and-greet opportunities with the orthopedic care team.
