New Family Medicine Provider Dr. Brittany Whitaker.

Island Health is pleased to welcome Dr. Brittany Whitaker, who recently joined Island Primary Care – 24th Street. Originally from Western Massachusetts, Whitaker served as a family medicine physician at Southern Maine Health Clinic most recently. She also taught at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine as adjunct clinical faculty and community preceptor.

Whitaker earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and environmental science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, and she completed both her residency and internship at Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis, Oregon.

Chief Medical Officer Jason Hogge, MD says Whitaker’s wide skillset is impressive.

“Dr. Whitaker exemplifies the perfect blend of passion and clinical expertise in the field of family medicine,” Hogge said.

Whitaker’s clinical interests extend beyond rural medicine; she is keenly invested in women’s health, international/travel medicine and lifestyle/nutritional medicine. Her philosophy of care focuses on treating the individual, not simply the disease. Whitaker is passionate about serving her community and is looking forward to making a positive impact by partnering with individuals to help them reach their health goals.

“Fostering a culture of safety and collaboration with each individual is what I love about my job. And, it’s my priority,” Whitaker said.

An avid traveler, both nationally and abroad, Whitaker also appreciates time at home with family and her two dogs. When not working, she enjoys fly fishing, hiking and camping, and she hopes to offer classes on nutrition, exercise and blood pressure management at Island Health.
