Island Health is honored to announce Island Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine is a recipient of RestorixHealth’s highest achievement, the Wound Center of Excellence Award. Recipients of this prestigious award meet or exceed national wound care quality benchmarks over a set period of time.

The Wound Center of Excellence Award distinguishes centers that have demonstrated exceptional success by meeting or exceeding clinical and operational benchmarks in several categories, including healing benchmarks and adherence to clinical practice pathways, along with a patient satisfaction rate of 96% or higher.

Island Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine is dedicated to optimizing outcomes and preventing lower limb loss in patients with non-healing wounds. The center is staffed with clinicians with advanced training in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)—an advanced wound-healing treatment that delivers 100% oxygen inside a pressurized chamber.

HBO therapy may be used for a number of indications, including:

• Diabetic wounds of the lower extremities
• Arterial insufficiencies (reduced blood flow to the arteries)
• Compromised grafts and flaps
• Crush injuries
• Delayed radiation injury (Mandibular osteoradionecrosis; Soft tissue radionecrosis; Enteritis; Proctitis; Cystitis)
• Acute traumatic ischemias (Trauma to a limb)
• Air or gas embolism
• Central retinal artery occlusion
• Chronic refractory osteomyelitis (bone infection)
• Gas gangrene
• Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss
• Necrotizing soft tissue infections
