Island Health promotes a healthy lifestyle in a beautiful area.
Why did you choose Island Health?
After an unplanned move to Anacortes in 2017 and knowing my husband and I wanted to settle here, I knew I wanted to work at Island Health. What drew me in was the small-town community feel with being able to work at a rural hospital close to home. Previously having worked at a 217-bed hospital, I wanted to move to a smaller community that still offered many health services. Island Health promotes a healthy lifestyle in a beautiful area, and I dove in at the opportunity to work here.
What do you love about your field of work?
After being a medical-surgical nurse for 10 years, Island Health offered the opportunity to transition and train in the operating room. I found out quickly this is where I thrive! Now in a supervisor role, I love the collaboration with a skilled operating room team that allows for constant teamwork, learning and growth. We all have a common goal: make our patients feel safe and provide the best care within the Surgical Services department.
If you could sum up your job in one sentence, what would it be?
I help guide the surgical team to provide high-quality care to our patients working collectively with experienced, innovative and compassionate people.
What would you say to someone considering a job at Island Health?
If you want a unique and rewarding career, join the team at Island Health. Just as I have experienced, you’ll have the chance to make an impact on our patients’ health experience and work closely with a very hands-on dedicated team throughout the hospital. I have been supported by my peers and the organization in growing my career path from the Acute Care unit to Surgical Services as a circulating nurse continuing to a supervisor. There are many possibilities to grow personally and professionally, and I will continue to be with this community for years to come.
