Providing Comfort to Patients During High-Anxiety Times
What do you enjoy most about being a mammography technologist?
I enjoy being able to provide comfort to patients during high anxiety times or difficult exams. I like being able to answer questions and provide the most up-to-date information to them to keep them informed about their healthcare.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
It is always most rewarding to hear that you comforted or helped a patient through an uncertain time. Hearing that you did a good job from the patient always makes everything worth it.
Why did you become a mammography technologist?
I was given the opportunity to shadow in mammography one day and that day happened to be the day someone very close to me had their exam done. That exam ended up being the one when they were diagnosed with breast cancer. To me, that was fate telling me I was meant to do this job.

Why do you like working at Island Health?
I like working at Island Health because it’s like working with family. The team we have created here is so close. We always go above and beyond for our teammates and the patients. We treat our patients how we would want to be treated which is especially important on the days patients don’t feel their best.
What do you want women to know about mammograms?
I want women to know how crucial it is to have them done every year. These exams are quick, easy and relatively painless with the new technology we have. They take up to 15 minutes of your time but could save your life. One in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Chances are someone you know has been diagnosed and would want you to have yours done yearly.
