Why did you choose Island Health?
I appreciate Island Health’s small-town atmosphere, which fosters a sense of community where everyone knows your name. I value the close relationships I’ve formed with the community.
What do you love about your field of work?
I have a big personality and am somewhat of a chatterbox, so I’m in my element working in the lab. I get to connect with people from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures. Every patient I see teaches me something new and unexpected.
What distinguishes Island Health from other workplaces you’ve experienced?
I really feel like it’s the charm of small towns. Our medical teams genuinely get to know our patients on a personal level. They’re treated as unique individuals, not a number.
How does Island Health foster a supportive and positive work environment?
They embrace learning opportunities, they recognize you and your co-workers for their strengths, they listen to employees on every level.
How would you describe the teamwork and collaboration among colleagues here?
We have quite a few people at the Island that work in multiple departments, highlighting their selfless commitment. I think the camaraderie amongst peers here is extraordinary. Everyone is always willing to help, even if they don’t work in your department.
