Island Primary Care – M Avenue welcomed pediatrician Valerie Horn, DO, MS, to the team this week. Horn earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at Crozer-Chester Medical Center Pediatrics in Upland, Pennsylvania.  She comes to Island Health most recently from the Naval Health Clinic in Oak Harbor, where she served as general pediatrician. During her residency, Horn was awarded the Dr. Baker Award for her dedication and commitment to patients, students and colleagues and was twice given the Gerald B. Kolski Award for outstanding dedication and teamwork.

Horn says as a pediatrician, she strives to be a trusted and approachable resource for the community. Having the opportunity to play a positive part in the lives of patients and families is the most rewarding part of the job.

“I enjoy establishing fundamental relationships with children at a young age and helping them flourish in all stages of their development from infancy into adolescence,” said Horn.

Originally from the Philadelphia area, Horn is enjoying the Pacific Northwest with family. She and her husband have a one-year-old daughter and a two-year-old Bernese mountain dog.  In her free time, Horn enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time outside, but mostly she loves being around people and seeing her loved ones happy.

Island Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Jason Hogge, MD is thrilled to welcome Horn.

“Her skills and background will complement our strong team of providers and staff,” said Hogge.
