Receiving healthcare close to home is not only a matter of convenience, it’s about fostering a relationship and sense of trust that enhances the overall patient experience. It can also be lifesaving. When you choose to receive care at Island Health, you benefit from a dedicated, highly-trained, 5-star team of professionals. These professionals are not just committed to our community, but also to your health and wellness, ensuring that you receive the best possible care.

Island Health proudly offers a newly renovated Emergency Department (ED) waiting area and treatment rooms. (You can read more about our recent renovations in the Emergency Services Project article in this newsletter.) Our ED cares for approximately 18,000 patients a year, or more than 50 patients on any given day. The Emergency Department at Island Health is a Level II Cardiac and a Level III Stroke and Trauma center. When every second counts, access to high level cardiac, stroke and trauma care can be lifesaving. Our experienced staff and advanced diagnostic technologies ensure patients receive timely and comprehensive care in critical situations.

In addition to the Emergency Services Project, our team has been hard at work implementing our three-to-five-year strategic plan, which includes increasing access to care, renovating facilities and updating technologies to enhance the patient experience. Earlier this year, leaders, medical staff and the Board of Commissioners worked to develop a long-term strategic vision to continue meeting the needs of our hospital district well into the future. We are finalizing the plan with the Commissioners and will begin developing goals and action plans around each initiative.

We are deeply grateful for your continued trust and support in choosing Island Health, YOUR public hospital district. Your choice is a testament to the value we bring to our community, and we are committed to continuing to serve you with the highest standards of care.
