This week, Island Health welcomed Paul Vachek, MBA, as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Vachek brings more than two decades of healthcare finance leadership to Island Health, most recently serving as CFO for Banner Health facilities in Phoenix, Arizona, including Banner Desert Medical Center, Banner Children’s Medical Center and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for strengthening hospital finances while keeping patient care front and center, guiding facilities through margin turnarounds, capital expansions and revenue-cycle improvements.

“Paul’s experience leading finance teams through complex challenges, from major capital projects to system-wide efficiency gains, makes him a strong fit for Island Health,” said Island Health CEO Elise Cutter. “We’re excited to have him join our leadership team as we continue building a resilient, community-focused healthcare system for our service area.”

In his new role, Vachek will oversee financial strategy, planning and operations for Island Health, working closely with hospital leadership, Medical Staff and the board of commissioners to support the organization’s purpose to be the best healthcare system to those we serve.

Vachek holds a Master of Business Administration from Northwest Nazarene University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Boise State University, both earned with honors. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
