Island Health Rooftop Helipad Activated
Island Health announced today a final milestone in the multi-faceted Emergency Services Project—activation of the rooftop helipad. All testing, inspections and approvals have been completed for the helipad. Island Health will transition the parking lot helipad to the rooftop helipad effective 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17th.
The final phase of the helipad transition will be to remodel the former parking lot helipad, creating approximately 20 more parking spaces for patients in the 24th Street parking lot. More details will be shared as this work begins.
For all non-emergency services, including diagnostic imaging, lab and surgery during regular business hours, Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday, 7:30 a.m.–1 p.m., patients should register at the Main Entrance (24th Street). Please note that this entrance is closed on Sundays.
The Emergency Department (ED) entrance should only be used by emergency patients and those who need after-hours access to the hospital. All after-hours appointments and visitors will register in the ED.
