Island Primary Care - M Avenue's newest family medicine provider, Elke Neuenschwander, MD.

Island Health is excited to welcome Elke Neuenschwander, MD, to its Island Primary Care – M Avenue Clinic on November 13. Neuenschwander comes most recently from Tacoma General in Tacoma, Washington, where she completed her Obstetrics Fellowship Program. Prior to that, she completed her Family Medicine Residency at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

A Pacific Northwest native, Neuenschwander grew up in Boring, Oregon and earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. She has worked in many rural and low-income/uninsured healthcare settings and is excited to return to a smaller community where she can work toward whole person health. In particular, Neuenschwander is interested in preventative medicine and women’s health/obstetrics.

“I see my job not as the decision-maker but as the one who presents options and helps guide my patients. I focus on getting to know my patients and what’s important to them, so that I can help them make the best choices for their needs at that time,” Neuenschwander said.

An avid outdoorswoman, Neuenschwander enjoys all mountain activities, whether it’s skiing, hiking or biking. As an undergrad at Whitworth University, she also participated in several musical groups and competed on the track team.

Island Health CEO Elise Cutter is thrilled to have Neuenschwander on staff.

“Dr. Neuenschwander brings an earnest philosophy of care and a passion for community. We are lucky to have her,” Cutter said.

To schedule an appointment with Neuenschwander, please call 360.293.3101.
