The Island Hospital Employee of the Month for January is Medical Records Coding Specialist Tiari Schwab.

Tiari began at Island Hospital as a coding specialist for our Laboratory accounts. Since then she has obtained her Certified Professional Coder certification and has added on coding for Diagnostic Imaging, Labor & Delivery and inpatient accounts. Tiari stepped into more of a lead role for the coding team a couple of years ago where she not only codes all inpatient accounts but also provides training for the coding team as well as our providers. Last year, Tiari coordinated a community-wide coding education event for Island, Skagit and Whidbey coders that was well attended. Her supervisor notes that, “Tiari is very professional and does everything in a kind manner. She is a great role model for all of us and I am thankful every day she is part of our team!”

Since her arrival in 2015, Tiari has characterized Island Hospital’s Promise to consistently provide the best customer service to our patients, families, guests and colleagues. Congratulations and thanks for being an inspiration, Tiari!
