The Island Hospital Employee of the Month for March is Patient Access Admission Specialist Gary Grubb.

Gary has grown exponentially over his six years at Island Hospital. He has become a mentor to many newer staff, assisting in their training and ensuring proper procedures and protocols are followed within Emergency Department registration. Gary takes charge when given complex situations, he consistently stays calm when dealing with uncomfortable situations. He’s willing to go out of his way to help out even when the task is outside the scope of his job. Gary has been known to shovel our sidewalks when there is snow, clean our lobbies when housekeeping staff is unable, and assist with departmental process improvement. During this current time of unease Gary has recently stated,

“If I can smile and be kind to everyone I see, it could help ease someone else’s fears. That is my goal now.”

Since his arrival in 2014, Gary has characterized Island Hospital’s Promise to consistently provide the best customer service to our patients, families, guests and colleagues. Congratulations and thanks for being an inspiration, Gary!
