Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Island Hospital welcomes Paul Hammer MD to the clinic. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Hammer brings more than 30 years of experience providing psychiatric care, including treatment of acute and chronic psychological trauma.

Dr. Hammer received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (cum laude) from the University of San Francisco in 1983. He earned his medical doctorate in 1988 from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He went on to complete his internship in 1989 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and his psychiatry residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California, in 1992. After completing his residency, Dr. Hammer continued to serve in the Navy practicing psychiatry holding multiple positions from staff psychiatrist to commanding officer.

Dr. Hammer is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Society of Uniformed Services Psychiatrists.
