Has your voice become softer over time?
It can be frustrating: you think your voice is strong and steady, yet others keep leaning in, asking you to speak up. This disconnect is a familiar challenge for many people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.

It’s not that you aren’t trying to speak loudly or clearly. The brain sometimes stops recognizing how soft your voice has become, and it may feel like you’re speaking loudly, but your voice sounds quiet to those around you.

How SPEAK OUT! helps
SPEAK OUT!® is an evidence-based speech therapy program created for people with Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. It helps patients speak with intention and use a strong and purposeful voice.

Through guided practice, you’ll learn how to make your voice louder, clearer and easier to understand.

The program includes an evaluation, individual therapy and daily home practice, all while concentrating and being deliberate as you speak. The stronger your speech muscles become, the easier it will be to speak with intent. As you master speaking with intent, you will be able to start applying it to other areas of your life, such as swallowing and walking.

Who benefits from SPEAK OUT!

You might benefit from the SPEAK OUT! program if:

  • People often ask you to repeat yourself.
  • Your voice fades or sounds weak by the end of the day.
  • You avoid talking on the phone or in groups.

Your voice is an important part of who you are. Call Island Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy today to learn more about this therapy at 360.299.1328. A referral from your primary care provider may be required.
