I really enjoy working at Island Health because of the great staff and the teamwork that happens here.
What do you love about your field of work?
I chose nursing because I really like helping people— it’s not often that you get to work in a job that you find very rewarding.

The comradery of my fellow healthcare workers and supporting staff makes Island Health unique.
How does Island Health foster a supportive and positive work environment?
Island Health leadership provide clear communication, the staff is both friendly and very supportive towards each other. Teamwork is strong not only within departments, but inter-departmentally as well.
How does Island Health create a sense of belonging among staff?
Island Health’s Morale, Wellness and Recognition Committee offers events for staff to help boost morale and a lot of time it revolves around really good food. It’s always a good time when we have good food and friends.
Can you share an example of how Island Health has supported your professional growth and development?
Recently, the nurses were given the opportunity to have their medical-surgical certification paid for by the hospital—a fantastic way to show support for staff.
How does leadership communicate with employees and encourage an open dialogue?
My manager does a fantastic job of having an open-door policy; she provides a welcoming environment, and listens, whether you need support or just someone to talk to. That’s a great leader.
What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?
Washington State has so many opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, crabbing, fishing and hunting. Also, the scenic drives are beautiful. It’s a great place to live!
