Dr. Sarah VanGaasbeek joins our Island Primary Care – M Avenue team, specializing in family medicine with obstetrics. VanGaasbeek was a Resident Physician and OB/Pediatric Chief Resident at UC Health Family Medicine in Fort Collins, Colorado where she diagnosed and treated a wide variety of diseases in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

In a recent interview, Dr. VanGaasbeek shares what she enjoys most about her job, including special interests.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: I love the care of the entire family and being immersed within my community. It is the connections I make with my patients that truly drives me. Being a family medicine doctor with obstetrics allows me to walk through the joys and sorrows of life alongside my patients.

Q: What are some of your clinical interests?

A: I am interested in obesity medicine because it is a disease that affects so much of our population and effective treatment can be life changing. We are also on the forefront of many new management and medication options.

Q: How do you like to spend your time when not seeing patients?

A: In my free time, I love to watch and support my favorite sports teams with my husband, daughter and our Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepard mix. We enjoy being outdoors, either on the water or riding bikes.
