The Island Hospital Employee of the Month for August is Respiratory Therapist Jake Perrault, RRT.

As a respiratory therapist, Jake is trained to assess, diagnose and care for patients who have difficulty breathing from lung diseases or respiratory illnesses or disorders. In collaboration with physicians and nurses, he develops treatment plans aimed at helping restore as much natural breathing function as possible for his patients. As part of his job duties, Jake performs a number of diagnostic tests, including electrocardiograms and pulmonary function tests and responds to code situations in the hospital. During the pandemic, Jake has had a very active role in caring for COVID patients who are experiencing shortness of breath and low oxygen levels. His co-workers praise Jake for his expertise, positive attitude and dedication to his job.
