Island Health is excited to announce that Gastroenterologist Dempsie Morrison IV, DO, has joined Island Surgeons. Dr. Morrison spent the last five years at PeaceHealth in Sedro-Woolley, serving St. Joseph Medical Center, United General Medical Center, Peace Island Medical Center and Ketchikan Medical Center.

A gastroenterologist for nearly a decade, Morrison earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. He completed his residency at Ohio Valley Medical Center in West Virginia and his fellowship at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Morrison treats a broad range of general gastrointestinal conditions. He performs EGC (upper endoscopy), colonscopy (lower endoscopy) and capsule endoscopy (small bowel). His areas of expertise include disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver and pancreas. Common conditions he treats include GERD, IBS, hepatitis, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcers and many others.

“My goal with my patients is to provide compassionate, individualized care. I feel that taking the time to listen and educate helps build trust and leads to better outcomes,” Morrison said.

In addition to wanting the best for his patients, Morrison is also intrigued and inspired by technology and computers and enjoys melding that affinity with his work.

Chief Medical Officer Jason Hogge, MD, looks forward to adding Morrison to the Island Surgeon staff.

“We know Dr. Morrison brings not only expertise in the field but a personal care for his patients that fits organically with everything we do here at Island Health,” Hogge said.

Though originally from Tennessee, Morrison considers the Pacific Northwest his home and can be found soaking up the trails, mountains and waterways when he’s not at work.
